Position Summary:The Finance Director has the overall responsibility for day-to-day management of Financial Management. He/she will also be responsible for Cash Management, Internal Auditing and Compliance functions of the Finance Department. The Finance Director will serve as a participant in the global finance team providing leadership and coordination in the administrative, accounting, and budgeting efforts of Relief International.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


Financial Management Systems


  • Responsible for all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to make sure they are in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements;

  • Provide oversight of the recording of HQ revenues, payroll and non-personnel related expenditures;

  • Ensure that trial balance accounts are reconciled with the proper support schedules and related documents are complete and properly filed;

  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner;

  • Clearly and timely communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of RI’s financial condition;

  • Build the capacity of the team and constantly provide support and training to increase productivity and job satisfaction of the team;

  • Participate in the review and any amendments to the existing RI Finance Policies and Procedures;

  • Participate as a member of the Finance department team in the annual budgeting and planning process;

  • Support the CFO in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.

Cash Management


  • Manage the process of daily depositing of funds from both contracts and grants and donations;

  • Monitor cash position and ensure wires to the field and to selected vendors are done timely;

  • Constantly analyze cash flow position and perform monthly organizational cash flow forecasting.

Internal Audit/Compliance


  • Provide oversight to all internal audit and compliance activities within the Finance department;

  • Provide leadership, proper planning, management during the annual A133 audit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:


He/she must have experience in a complex nonprofit 501(c)(3) that has multiple programs.


Other qualifications include:


  • A minimum of 10 years of Finance and Accounting experience with 2-3 years in a leadership role preferably with an INGO;

  • Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred;

  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development, and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments;

  • A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants is essential;

  • Knowledge of accounting and reporting software; Experience with Sun Systems and QuickBooks is favorable;

  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly;

  • Keen analytic, organization, and problem solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations;

  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers;

  • Ability to travel domestically or overseas as required by direct supervisor;
