Main Purpose of the Role
The Leave of Absence Specialist is responsible for providing guidance, support, and administration of the non-occupational leave absence process for Virgin America Team Members.
Main Areas of Responsibility
Serve as the primary internal contact for team members and managers, providing instruction and guidance on company leave procedures, policies, and federal and state leave laws.
Coordinate all aspects of team members leaves, including scheduling, pay, benefits, tracking and monitoring, through all phases of leave.
Interface between team members and our third-party leave administrator to follow up and resolve any eligibility and/or paperwork questions or concerns.
Work closely with managers and scheduling departments to coordinate pay and schedules for affected team members.
Partner with Team Member Relations Managers to process requests for accommodation.
Coordinate return to work process with department, scheduling, training, and other areas as necessary.
Develop and generate reports to analyze leave data and trends.
Keep updated on new leave laws and regulations; revise internal forms and communications as necessary.
Additional projects as assigned.
Professional Experience Required
Minimum of 2 years experience in an HR/Benefits related position that included hands-on administration of both continuous and intermittent leaves.
In-depth knowledge of state and federal leave entitlements, including but not limited to FMLA, CFRA, PDL. General understanding of other HR laws/practices, including, but not limited to ADA, HIPAA, USERRA.
Understanding of various disability benefits, including CA SDI and PFL, STD, and LTD.
Knowledge of general airline scheduling and pay practices desired but not required.
Skills & Abilities Required
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint including graphs, tables and other advanced spreadsheet functions. Experience using HRIS software, database and web based systems also preferred.
Professionalism and confidentiality are essential, with a strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
Ability to meet the expectations of a fast-paced work environment; ability to thrive in a changing business environment while working independently and proactively, using good judgment.
Ability to have high focus on attention to details, able to manage multiple competing deadlines and priorities.
Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and oral / written communications skills are required.
