The IT department supports the organization"s work by providing reliable and scalable applications and infrastructure for the IRC"s offices in the US and around the world, including many technologically challenging locations.

Job Overview

The Software Systems team at IRC is responsible for custom software development and standards, integration, systems coordination, enterprise architecture, and setting standards for shared organization systems to ensure the alignment of IRC systems to end user needs and organizational goals. The Junior Product Development Manager assists with all aspects of the software development lifecycle and the delivery of products and systems for the Software Systems team.

This position will assist management to deliver IRC Software and Systems that best meet IRC end user needs and ensures that the IRC software and systems are coordinated around agency-wide concerns that include user experience, security, reporting, scalability, and reliability of common software, tools and systems.

Major Responsibilities

• Assist in the research, planning and execution of projects related to custom software development and off-the-shelf business systems


• Assist in delivering user-focused solutions by effectively coordinating with technical and non-technical staff and consultants


• Integrate with IT Project Management Office practices and tools


• Evangelize the value of software development, common tools and integrated data systems including developing and executing communications plans, business consulting, and outreach


• Build productive relationships with business owners


• Provide first consulting to business owners who have ideas or questions about software development and systems projects


• Develop business cases by interacting with stakeholders from multiple, globally distributed business units


• Assist in the planning and execution of all project activities for software development applicable projects including analysis, specifications, planning, stakeholder engagement, communications, risk mitigation, communications, budgeting and reporting


• Participate in all aspects of the product management design and implementation of custom applications


• Collaborate with internal staff and consultants to develop security guidelines for custom applications and common systems


• Facilitate the creation of user documentation and training materials

Required Skills

• Bachelor"s degree or equivalent with at least 3 years of professional work experience as a software product manager or architect


• Strong Computer Science fundamentals and analytical abilities; knowledge of programming languages concepts such modularity, code architectures, object-oriented design, data models and design, quality assurance practices and user experience design


• 2+ years of experience with business analysis in support of systems development and implementation including organizational design, requirements gathering and presentation, prioritization, business process modeling and refinement, data modeling, and enterprise architecture


• 1+ years of experience of the software development life cycle across distributed teams


• 1+ years of hands-on experience with an Agile methodology, preferably Scrum, and knowledge of best practices


• Proven business process analysis skills including journaling, visualization, and re-design


• Truly excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively listen to and liaise with colleagues on all levels in a distributed, multicultural, detail-oriented environment (without losing a sense of humor)


• Experience talking to business users in non-technical language


• Strong proficiency with MS Office 2007 or later


• Excellent writing, presentation and meeting facilitation skills


• Fast learner, creative problem solver

Desired Skills

• Experience with international nonprofits


• Experience in distributed teams of business analysts, developers, and designers


• Experience designing, implementing and refining team processes for continuous software delivery


• Experience with programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, or Python


• Experience with the implementation of enterprise technology systems such as ERP, finance, intranet, supply chain, HRIS, workflow, data management, content management


• Experience with wire framing tools such as Illustrator, Balsamiq, or OmniGraffle


• Experience with business intelligence and data analysis toolsets, data warehousing
