About the opportunity:
EMSI’s Healthcare Department is seeking Medical Record Scanning Technicians to become a member of the Medical Record Retrieval team. The Medical Record Scanning Technician will be responsible for Recovery, scanning and electronic documentation of medical records from a variety of provider offices and facilities using computer and scanning equipment and accurately transferring the data back to EMSI. This is a temporary part time job during normal business hours. Earn extra cash for the holidays! Hourly pay to $14.00, plus mileage.


Primary Areas of Responsibility:


  • Travel to provider and facility locations to secure records.

  • Coordinate travel arrangements to provider and facility locations.

  • Communicate with providers and facilities throughout medical record recovery project.

  • Coordinate schedules for medical record recovery to complement those of providers and facilities.

  • Convert visual and textual records and documents into electronic images using a scanner or other technology and equipment.

  • Adhere to quality policies and procedure to ensure quality criteria met.

  • Conduct quality assurance tests to ensure images meet quality standards

  • Append or correct images in response to quality assurance findings.

  • Transfer images to EMSI on a daily and expedient basis.

  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure equipment functions properly.

  • Keep equipment secure and safe at all times.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with the components of a medical record.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Must have access to vehicle for use in performing required duties of this position.

  • Must have good driving record

Preferred Skills:

  • Three to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of experience in a medical office environment.

  • Experience with scanning equipment.

Equipment and software provided by EMSI:

  • PC, laptop, scanner, scanning unit travel case; MS Office (including PowerPoint), Excel

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, periodic lifting, some bending, stooping and stretching.

  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, scanner, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.

  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.

  • Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, reports, and computer terminals.

  • Requires hearing within normal range for telephone use.

  • Lifting: up to 40 lbs.

  • Any unusual demands: potential for extensive traveling
