This is a two year close-ended appointment .
For nearly 70 years, the Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) has been a national and international leader in interdisciplinary social science research involving the collection or analysis of data from scientific sample surveys. Survey Research Operations (SRO) is the operations branch of the SRC.
SRO provides a wide range of services in the areas of survey and statistical design, data collection and processing, and data analysis. SRO provides these services to clients from ISR and SRC, to other departments within the University, as well as to researchers and organizations outside the University. Within SRO, staff members work on projects across a variety of substantive areas, using leading survey methodology and project management techniques, as well as state-of-the-art technical systems.
Under direct supervision, the Meeting/Special Events Assistant will assist with managing training events for data collection staffs and other meeting logistic efforts within the Survey Research Operations (SRO). Responsibilities*
Coordinate logistics including on-site set up and breakdown for meetings and trainings; including packing training materials and transporting to training sites (on campus and off). This will often require driving a University of Michigan vehicle to and from the training sites. Ensure proper and timely set up of audiovisual and other components. Responsible for producing identification badges for data collection staff members. Responsible for providing on-site support at trainings and meetings to SRC/SRO clients, staff, and participants.
Assist the Meeting and Special Events Manager with planning and execution of logistics including arranging/scheduling services and venue logistics from external vendors and internal UM departments. Assist with site selection, food and beverage selection, as well as make arrangements for audio-visual, transportation, and other services. Communicate with event participants and vendors, including logistic letters, request for proposals, follow-up calls, visits and appointments, and personal interactions at events.
Responsible for assisting in meeting and training logistics by preparing agendas, nametags, table tents, and relevant materials; schedule rooms and offsite facilities. Assist with training material inventory, including meeting equipment, displays, and electronic and printed promotional items. Draft correspondence and training materials with critical attention paid to grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of SRO training and meeting events. Required Qualifications*
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least one year of professional work experience in an administrative capacity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and multiple project timelines.
Demonstrated basic competency in MS Office.
Ability to travel to and work at a variety of event and meeting locations, including travel overnight.
Ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds to event venues for event execution needs; must be able to remain in a stationery position during entire shift and move throughout event venues to execute events.
Flexible schedule and ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Must be able to meet the requirements for vehicle operators at the University of Michigan, including possession of a valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points on your motor vehicle record (MVR). Desired Qualifications*
