Summary Responsible for providing pre-registration, registration, and discharge services for patients in a variety of departments, clinics, etc. Overall functions include telephone utilization, insurance verification, chart preparation, and cash collection activities.
- Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with patients, medical staff, the general public, and inter/intra-departmental personnel.
- Performs clerical duties to obtain accurate registration and data collection information to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
- Inputs accurate patient demographic and financial data into the computer terminal as observed and audited by supervisor.
- May collect cash, checks, and credit card payments from patients. Issues receipts of payments and maintains complete and accurate cash receipt information.
- Utilizes scheduling system to effectively maintain clinic schedules.
- Follows physician’s written instructions at discharge and ensures appropriate scheduling of appointments and ancillary tests.
- Assists with quality monitoring of activities within the department to meet quality goals.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
III. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Work requires a high school level of educational development and six to twelve months of previous experience.
- No certification, registration, or licensure required.
- Work requires the analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine.
- Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain medical center policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or medical center employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.

- Work requires occasionally reaching and grasping objects.
- Work requires regularly using a keyboard to interact with computer system.
- Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.
- Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed in an office or clinical environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.
Required experience:
- Computer Systems, Appointment Setting, Filing, Phones: 3 years
Required education:
- High school or equivalent
