The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Emergency Response and Recovery Branch (ERRB) and Emory University"s Center for Humanitarian Emergencies are offering a joint one-year Public Health Fellowship.


Components of the Fellowship include:


  • 1-year Masters in Public Health (MPH) Program culminating in an MPH graduate degree in Global Health

  • Graduate Certificate in Complex Humanitarian Emergencies

  • Career experience with CDC ERRB

The selected Fellow is supported in Atlanta, Ga through:


  • Tuition and fees for a one-year MPH at Rollins School of Public Health

  • One return airfare from home of record

  • Cost of living stipend

  • Fully furnished apartment (paid with stipend)

  • Laptop

Eligibility Requirements


This scholarship is intended for mid-career professionals with the following minimum qualifications:


  • Three years of experience in complex humanitarian emergencies, conflict, post conflict, or resource-poor settings

  • Baccalaureate degree (candidates with MD or post-baccalaureate education will be given preference)

  • Fluent speaking, reading and writing in English

  • Basic computer skills

Sponsoring organizations should be able to give assurances to the recipient of having a job upon completion of the Fellowship. Priority will be given to candidates from regions that have experienced conflict or a humanitarian emergency.

Section III: Writing Sample


Please prepare an essay, not more than two pages double spaced, that details a research project that could be implemented upon the completion of the fellowship. The essay should identify the need, research components, what (if any) work as already been done on the project, expectations for the project during the scholarship and how the project will be implemented after the scholarship is completed. This essay will also be used to assess your English writing skills. The essay should be attached to this application with your name and nominating organization at the top of both pages.


Section IV: References


Please provide the contact information for two references (in addition to the nominating official). As part of the nomination, the organization director, chief of party, or senior level advisor should also complete a letter of recommendation. All letters of recommendation should be no more than 300 words. References should email their letters of recommendation directly to IERHB@cdc.gov by December 1.
