Examples of Duties:
May include but are not limited to the following:
1. Conducts interviews of proposed guardians, wards and others residing in home; reviews petitions; confers with attorneys, doctors, teachers, therapists and other parties; checks references; checks criminal records using CORPUS/CII information; and makes recommendations to the court for best interests of minor.
2. Writes reports for court hearings based on interviews and investigations; makes determinations and recommendations to the court as appropriate in conservatorship and guardianship proceedings based on case assessment; attends court hearings; briefs Judge about particular cases; and follows up on judges’ orders.
3. Interviews a variety of conservators, conservatees (who are primarily elderly or developmentally disabled), and other persons necessary to obtain relevant case information; advises persons of legal rights; reviews medical records, petitions, accountings and reports; and appoints legal counsel.
4. Conducts special investigations as requested by the court; handles complaints, conducts investigations and calendars special hearings as necessary; and mediates disputes between contesting conservators in special cases as requested by the court.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the social sciences, psychology, administration of justice or a related field.
And
Experience:
The equivalent to two years of full-time professional level experience performing case or investigative analysis in a legal/judicial, social services, or medical environment.
Spanish/English bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of California Probate Code, other California codes pertaining to probate matters; court procedures; legal and medical terminology and documents; interviewing techniques; problems of the elderly, developmentally disabled and brain damaged; children’s needs and special interests; cross-cultural issues; and general accounting procedures.
Ability to interview a variety of individuals, including the elderly, developmentally disabled, children and others in homes, hospitals, institutions and other locations; understand, interpret and apply pertinent provisions of the Probate Code, Civil Code, and other California Codes, Judicial Council and Superior Court rules and procedures; understand complex issues; interpret information from various sources, analyze problems and documents and make appropriate recommendations; write comprehensive, factually accurate reports; plan and organize work to meet deadlines.
GENERAL INFORMATION
This is a full-time FLSA exempt management position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of fingerprint check and the provision of appropriate identifying documents to certify eligibility to work in the United States. This position includes a one-year probationary period. The finalist must be fingerprinted for criminal record check purposes and continued employment is contingent upon information received in the report.
The recruitment and examination process will include the following three components:
1. An initial screening of all application materials received by Friday, May 13, 2016, including completed application forms and supplemental questionnaires.
2. A review of the applications and supplemental questionnaires to select the best-qualified candidates for the oral interview. A resume does not substitute for completing the application form. An incomplete or partial application form and supplemental questionnaire will result in disqualification.
3. An oral interview that will be weighted as 100% of the candidate’s final score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
The Court reserves the right to limit the number of candidates invited to the testing process to include only the best-qualified candidates should there be a large applicant pool. Successful candidates in the initial application review will be considered further in the selection process.
