The Criminal Division (CRM) develops, enforces, and supervises the application of all federal criminal laws except those specifically assigned to other Divisions in the Department of Justice. CRM, along with the 94 United States Attorneys, is assigned the responsibility for overseeing criminal matters under more than 900 federal statutes, as well as certain civil litigation. CRM attorneys prosecute many nationally significant cases. In addition to its direct litigation responsibilities, CRM formulates and implements criminal enforcement policy and provides advice and assistance. For example, it approves or monitors sensitive areas of law enforcement, such as participation in the Witness Security Program and the use of electronic surveillance; advises the Attorney General, Congress, the Office of Management and Budget, and the White House on matters of criminal law; provides legal advice and assistance to federal prosecutors and investigative agencies; and provides leadership for coordinating international, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement matters.

CRM’s Office of the Assistant Attorney General (OAAG) serves as the headquarters and heart of the Division’s operations. It directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of all Division policy in concert with all federal laws, regulations, and Department policy. The AAG, various Deputies, and other high-level officials assigned to the Office advise, and interact and coordinate with, counterparts in other Divisions, as well as officials in the Office of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and other Department-level components.

Duties


The incumbent to this position serves as an Office Support Assistant, and performs a variety of critical day-to-day clerical and administrative tasks in support of high-level officials in the OAAG. This includes:


Correspondence, Files, and Reports: Drafts correspondence, ensures proper grammar, and adherence to style requirements. Responds directly to incoming correspondence, as assigned, or routes to the appropriate individual. Files reports, correspondence, and other documents in accordance with established procedures. Issues covered often deal with criminal cases that may be extremely sensitive and/or nationally significant.


Special Projects: Assists with various special projects, some highly visible, including development of PowerPoint presentations and assembly of binders and folders for hearings, meetings, etc.


Facility Services, Property, and Supply Administration: Assists in the purchase of office supplies and equipment. Assists with office moves and setting up office space for new employees, including assigning and issuing computers, telephones, cell phones, and office furniture. Assists with arranging telephone moves of repairs, as well as repairs of office equipment.

Travel Support: Compiles travel paperwork for OAAG officials and employees, and assists in arranging travel, including transportation and accommodations.


Human Resources Administration: Assists or performs timekeeper duties. Assists with leave audits. Files and distributes copies of documents and forms in accordance with all federal, Department, and Division requirements.


Procurement and Contracting: Assists with the processing and filing of contracts, Statements of Work, purchase order requests, purchase card requests, and approval of forms.


Training Administration: Receives training forms and records and routes to the appropriate party and files.


Unit Reception, Telephone Support, and Notary Services: Greets visitors to the office; responds to telephone calls or refers to the proper individual, as appropriate.

Qualifications


To qualify at the GS-04 level , applicants must have one of the following:


Two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or an associate’s degree; OR


One (1) year of general experience to include: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR


Combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.


To qualify at the GS-05 level , applicants must have one of the following:


Four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree; OR


One (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Examples of specialized experience must include duties such as: performs simple automation duties to include drafting routine correspondence, updating spreadsheets and databases, and formatting documents; files and distributes documents in accordance with established procedures; escorts visitors and responds to telephone calls; OR


Combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.


To qualify at the GS-06 level , applicants must have:
One (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent the GS-05 grade level. Examples of specialized experience must include duties such as: provides office automation support including, producing charts, updating databases, or preparing presentation materials; assists in drafting and routing correspondence, and files copies in accordance with established procedures; escorts visitors and responds to telephone calls, assists the supervisor in carrying out various special projects.


Combination of Education and Experience -Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

Please note that for the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours of an undergraduate degree is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience requirement.
