SUMMARY:
Counterpart International is currently seeking a Financial Analyst – Grants Close Out. This is a full time position based in Arlington, VA. The Financial Analyst is responsible for the financial close out, reconciliation and accounting for ended projects. The Financial Analyst will develop tools for tracking and timely close out of grants.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain a tracking schedule for active and ended grants
• Identify and prioritize the grants to be closed
• For each of the grants to be closed perform a detailed analysis to include:
o Grants Cost Review Analysis
o Review of balance sheet accounts
o Calculate final amount due to/from Funder
o Prepare adjusting entries to close out the grant in the accounting system
• Maintain close out files – both electronically and paper
• Perform a reconciliation of net assets by project
• Prepare monthly report updates for the Executive Team
• Update the award management system
• Develop written processes for tracking and managing close out of grants
• Any other duties as assigned by the Controller
Requirements Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CPA or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at an international development non-profit organization
• Knowledgeable and experienced in close out of federal and non-federal grants
Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to work with complex accounting of grants
• Self-starter – ability to work independently without supervision
• Demonstrated ability to show initiative, solve problems, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and remain calm under pressure
• Demonstrated ability to simultaneously see the big picture (system level) and understand the nuances of the details to make informed decisions/recommendations
• Meticulous attention to detail, as well as outstanding critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Proven ability to prioritize and to initiate follow-through
• Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills required
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• US government grants experience required. Knowledge of reporting requirements and of donor government agencies including OMB circulars, CFR’s and FAR preferred
• Experience in using MS Dynamics Serenic Navigator required
