Lead the development of the PHT Group’s strategic approach to building strategic private sector partnerships to improve public health through increasing access to and appropriate use of medicines and advocate for this role in technical and international development fora.
Specific Responsibilities
Strategy development for increasing access to and appropriate use of medicines and other health technologies (15%)
- Lead the development of the Pharmaceuticals and Health Technologies (PHT) Group’s strategic approach to increasing access to and appropriate use of medicines in low and middle-income countries through the building private sector partnerships; align and coordinate with the Health Programs Group (HPG) and the Global Partnerships, Marketing, and Communications (GPMC) Office.
- Monitor developments in relation to increasing access to and appropriate use of medicines and health technologies and work to revise PHT’s strategy as appropriate.
Creation and maintenance of public and private sector partnerships (50%)
- Identify and establish public and private sector partnerships in line with the PHT Group’s strategic approach to increasing access to and appropriate use of medicines.
- Monitor international development efforts and adjust the PHT Group’s partnership profile as appropriate.
- Provide management oversight for PHT private sector access to medicines activities and partnerships
Developing new business opportunities (15%)
- Develop new business opportunities (with a focus on non-USG), contributing to technical approach/methodology to project design, etc.
- Contribute to the development and review of PHT, HPG, and GPMC technical strategies for concept notes and proposals, with a particular eye towards identifying and leveraging opportunities to increase access to and appropriate use of medicines and health technologies
External representation (20%)
- Represent the PHT Group at technical and international development meetings to advocate for and refine efforts in building partnerships to increase access to and appropriate use of medicines.
Provide external representation and presence on global access to medicines issues, including serving on panels and presenting at forums with key stakeholders, global health technology thought leaders, policy makers, potential partners, etc.
Post graduate education in a field of study closely related to the assigned responsibilities is required.
- 10 years’ of related experience in areas of pharmaceutical management systems and international public health, with experience in private sector pharmaceutical services highly preferred.
Preferred:
- 15+ years’ of related experience in areas of pharmaceutical management systems and international public health, with experience in private sector pharmaceutical services.
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in relation to improving access to medicines through the private and/or commercial sector, especially in low and middle-income countries;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in subject matter areas such as establishing and running retail pharmacy outlets, pharmaceutical services delivery, pharmaceutical information systems, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership and management abilities;
- Prior experience and success directing international donor-funded projects in LMICs;
- Demonstrated strategic planning and visioning skills;
- Proven record of aligning diverse, multi-level teams with project mission and vision;
- Track record of strong commitment to sharing knowledge, documenting experiences, supporting creative initiatives, and sharing credit;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with senior-level colleagues, particularly interacting productively, proactively, and comfortably with international organizations, multinational companies and other private sector groups, government agencies, and non-USG donor organizations;
- Demonstrated strategic agility, diplomacy, conflict management, team building, written and oral communication, and negotiation skills.
