Role Summary/Purpose: The Aviation Computing Systems (ACS) product area is organized into four main product lines: Commercial Computing, Mission Computing, Flight Control Electronics and Networking. The ACS Application Engineering team is seeking candidates who have a broad level of systems, hardware and software expertise that spans all four-product lines.
Essential Responsibilities The ACS Application Engineering team has overall engineering and technical guidance responsibility for all products, projects, and programs, which make up the ACS product area. The Application Engineer is the primary person responsible for the technical aspects of Technology Planning, Strategic Planning, Business Pursuit, and Program Execution. Candidates are being sought for three ACS Applications Engineering positions, with expertise in one or more of the three main technologies that span across all ACS product areas:
- High Integrity Computing Technologies
- Secure Computing Technologies
- Computing Network Technologies
Specific Roles and responsibilities include:
Technical Planning:
- Identify enabling and discriminating technologies and Intellectual Property (IP) required to achieve business objectives of the product area
- Define key technology / competency / IP gaps for the product area
- Identify and prioritize product area IR&D topics and budgets
- Document the product area’s relative technical competitive position and market trends
Strategic Planning:
- Develop technical portion of product strategies roadmaps and plans, collaboratively with product area team
- Provide technical support for product area capture plans
- Oversee technical support of product area relevant industry working groups and conferences
- Specify acquisition or partnership targets that address our strategy.
Business Pursuit:
- Support teaming with customers and industry partners to define product requirements
- Develop and present Customer Presentations and Technical White Papers
- Cultivate strong relationships with their technical counterparts at GE customers
- Must be capable of accurately estimating costs incurred in designing (systems, software and hardware), building (prototype and production), and testing products to meet customer expectations and achieve an executable plan
- Must consider product manufacturability, reliability and maintainability during the pursuit.
- For new business pursuits, supports technical proposal development including Job Analysis (JA) and the bid approval process
- Verify that the critical technical customer requirements are met by our proposals
- Support bid approval presentations
- Share responsibility with the rest of the Product Area leadership team to meet our sales and orders objectives
Program Execution:
- Provide technical support to Product Area Program Managers to ensure projects are successful and that the profit objectives are met
- Provide overall technical oversight for their area of expertise within the product area
- Serve as lead system architects/consultants for the ACS Product Area
- Identify design re-use opportunities to reduce cost and risk
- Recommend outsource opportunities
- Provide continuity within and across multiple programs to maximize synergies
- Maintain a product area specific Technical Lessons Learned database
- Mentor junior engineers to develop their product domain knowledge
- Troubleshoot major system, hardware, and software problems with our suppliers, partners or customers
- In-depth knowledge of the technical and business organization and capabilities of adjacent product areas / business units
Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 10 years experience in engineering design and product manufacturing

- This position requires access to controlled technology. To abide by Export Compliance regulations candidates must have either US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident Alien Status.
