Administrative Specialist II/Receptionist - Director's Office job - State of South Carolina - Richland County, SC

Under limited supervision, handles all front desk reception and telephone/switchboard operations in the Goldsmith Building for the SC Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ) and provides confidential support to the Director’s Office as needed. Receives incoming calls for SCDJJ; directs said calls to proper parties taking messages when necessary; and delivers these messages in a timely and professional fashion to the appropriate personnel. Responsible for miscellaneous duties in the Goldsmith Building: compiles and distributes weekly EMT schedules; completes building maintenance work orders as necessary; and cancels reservations of Goldsmith training room when necessary. Greets and receives visitors to the Goldsmith Building, directing them to the appropriate staff as required. Maintains a positive customer focused relationship with the general public, co-workers, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills. Provides confidential support to Goldsmith’s executive staff as needed and completes other duties as deemed necessary by the Director and the Director’s assistant.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:


A high school diploma and two years of clerical related experience. May require the ability to type at a corrected rate of 35 words per minute.


Preferred Qualifications:


Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies relevant to the agency of employment. Knowledge of word processing centers and/or current office management practices. Knowledge of grammatical rules, clerical formats and/or journalistic principles. Ability to deal effectively with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods; operate computer, copier, and other office equipment; communicate orally and written; bend, stoop, reach, stand and carry up to 10 lbs.; provide appropriate customer service with a positive attitude.
