The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 16 countries and at over 5,500 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. With a growing global staff of over 1,000—90% based in the field—the Foundation’s global mission is to implement prevention, care, and treatment; further advance innovative research; and to execute strategic and targeted global advocacy activities to bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.


Job Summary


The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks an experienced Sr. HR Manager to join our dynamic global HR Team based in our Washington, DC Office. The successful candidate will use their knowledge of talent management, benefits and compensation, as well as strong organizational and collaboration skills to build internal and external relationships, complete projects and manage the unique challenges and opportunities within an international nonprofit. In addition, this position will manage a small HR team.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Manage all domestic and expatriate staff benefits programs. Serve as point of contact to address employee questions relating to Foundation provided benefits: medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, retirement savings plans, disability, leave, holidays and COBRA administration.




  • Manage yearly open enrollment process, including negotiating with vendors and facilitating employee meetings and assist Vice President, HR & Admin in ongoing benefit reviews and plan changes to ensure ongoing competitiveness.




  • Manage global performance management processes and online system, inclusive of employee and HR Partner training sessions, reporting and data analysis, and day-to-day employee education and inquiry response. Manage Foundation-wide annual, mid-year and 90 day processes, including communications, presentations and program enhancements.




  • Coordinate / oversee efforts around learning & development and career development including further developing our learning systems and resources, promoting L&D initiatives at country level, and building linkages to performance management.




  • Work with VP, HR & Admin on special projects related to compensation structure, competitiveness and tracking. On an annual basis, in coordination with the Foundation’s compensation consultants, conduct yearly review of compensation data for all of our countries as well as conducting compensation trainings for US staff and HR partners.




  • Manage International Assignee program consisting of approximately 40 staff based in Africa, including their on/off boarding, contract issuance/renewals, quarterly and annual allowance reviews, and day-to-day support.




  • Serve as business partner and first point of contact within the Washington DC office for general human resources issues, including employee relations, career development and compensation.




  • Provide capacity building support as needed to HR partners in country relating to HR systems and processes.



Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a business related field.

  • 8+ years of relevant HR experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, benefits and compensation.

  • Strong analytical & strategic skills.

  • Experience in international development, preferably in public health with a focus on developing countries preferred.

  • Technologically savvy and strong computer literacy skills; Workforce Now and performance management systems (Halogen preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Outstanding ability to interact effectively with managers, supervisors and staff.

  • Proven ability to develop relationships with a wide-range of internal and external constituencies with different perspectives.

  • Outstanding analytical skills and excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.

  • Decisive and diplomatic, with strong and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team.

  • Desire and ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong team and leadership skills.

  • Experience recruiting for proposals for CDC/USAID (or other donor) projects strongly preferred.

  • PHR, SPHR, GPHR preferred.

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive matters and to maintain confidentiality and objectivity.
