The Physician Division Leader is primarily accountable for the direction and coordination of the assigned service lines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Assures that the philosophy and mission of Mercy Clinics and Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is visual in the operation and direction of assigned departments. Communicates and promotes a strong commitment to this mission.
Responsible for building and maintaining a medical group practice culture that supports Mercy’s mission and philosophy.
Encourages teamwork among physicians and multi-disciplinary care teams to ensure high quality outcome.
Manages physician-driven clinical resources utilization.
Assures appropriate and quality physician practice styles.
Provides physician continuing education and skill building.
Encourages clinical innovation.
In collaboration with the division’s administrative leader, manages the planning, organization and control of assigned departments of Mercy Clinics and service lines of Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
In collaboration with the administrative leader, ensures that department programs comply with all applicable State and Federal regulations as well as maintain quality standards for patient care/procedures.
In collaboration with the administrative leader, provides leadership and supervision and professional growth to physician and administrative leaders, of assigned departments and service lines.
In collaboration with administrative leader, supervises and reviews budgeting processes to arrive at overall division budget.
Participates with leaders at Mercy Clinics, Administration, and clinical areas in programmatic decision-making structures and processes.
In collaboration with administrative leader, implements key organization-wide strategies with the assigned services.
In collaboration with administrative leader, assures quality clinical care and excellent customer service in all areas.
Maintains excellent communication and collaboration with key physician groups and generally within the medical staff structure.
In collaboration with administrative leader, maintains outcome focus and assures team processes to achieve measurable outcomes for improvement of patient care.
Provides leadership, participates in, and recommends personnel actions to attract, retain and motivate staff (e.g., interviewing, hiring, performance appraisal, etc.).
Evaluates policies and directs the implementation of new policies when necessary for assigned areas.
Provides leadership to support positive public relations.
As assigned by the President of Mercy Clinics, participates in local, state, and national organizations to aid in short-term and long-range planning of health care services.
Responsible to foster positive collaborating relationships with other departments and divisions.
QUALIFICATIONS


Current license as an M.D or D.O. to practice medicine in the State of Iowa.
Master’s Degree in business, public administration, health care administration preferred.
Three years medical director or leadership position experience in a hospital setting or physician organization.
Physician required to work in Pediatric or Pediatric subspecialty service line.
