Our client is looking for a Principal Structural Engineer for their busy office in Chesham.
Main Duties
1. Receive and comply with Project Briefings as agreed with the company Partners/Associates at the outset of a project
2. Comply with all terms of any Consultancy Agreements/Conditions of Engagement under which the company are appointed
3. Liaise & communicate with external professionals and clients
4. Represent the company at in-house and external meetings
5. Supervise the preparation and checking of structural engineering designs and drawings
6. Prepare specifications, reports and general correspondence
7. Attend site to inspect various stages of construction works
8. Monitor job costs against fees due, and to raise invoices accordingly
9. Exercise due care and diligence in engineering design
10. Comply with the requirements of the company QA system
Requirements
Education/Learning Experience
Minimum: HND in an appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline, plus associate membership of either the ICE, IStructE, or similar
Preferred: Degree in an appropriate ‘built environment’ discipline and either having achieved or be actively working towards full membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers
Previous Experience
Broad experience in Civil/Structural Consulting Engineering working to UK standards
Technical Skills
- Proven ability to design in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.
- Ability to design structural members in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
- Familiarity with proprietary design software such as SCIA Engineer, Fastrak, etc
- Familiarity with the Site Investigation process
- Clear understanding of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, NHBC regulations, etc
- Keenness to acquire further skills in all aspects of engineering design and detailing
- Familiarity with proprietary design software such as Esa-Prima (Smart Modeller), RAM Concept, etc
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
- Basic use of Microsoft Office and other administration software

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage projects and resources within agreed time scales
- Report and liaise regularly with your Line Manager (Associate or Partner)
- Comply with the requirements of the company Quality Assurance system and other company Policy Documents
- Dress smartly and deal with other staff politely and couteously
- Present a professional face and give assistance to all visitors, external professionals and clients
- Act professionally in the interests of the company
