PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Resource Development (RD) staff work in three main areas: 1) raising private funds and cultivating and maintaining relationships with private donors; 2) defining the agency"s brand, raising our public profile and sharing stories about our work by engaging with the media, the public, and our supporters and producing a wide range of online and offline communications; and 3) teaching visitors to our Portland Action Center about issues of global poverty and engaging them in efforts to end it. The RD team includes several dozen dynamic professionals who possess a wide range of skills. We are database managers, web developers, internet marketers and public relations experts. We are writers, designers, photographers and teachers. We are fundraisers with expertise in direct response, online, community, major gift and corporate giving. We are specialists in fundraising analysis, stewardship, prospecting and customer service. Most of all, we are passionate about Mercy Corps" mission and dedicated to supporting our worldwide team that is helping people survive and communities thrive.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for building and maintaining our library of storytelling assets for the broader organization"s use. All assets are organized and uploaded onto Mercy Corps" digital asset management system (DAMS). They include photography, videos, stories, press releases, resource documents, reports, graphics, art files and more. The Content Asset Manager builds and curates collections of related materials, ensuring they are easily searchable and usable. Using a marketing and communications lens, this person understands which assets relate to which stories, programs and Mercy Corps" broader mission. The Content Asset Manager is intimately familiar with our library and actively shares institutional knowledge to help people access the materials they need for their communications. Because photography makes up a large percentage of the total library – and is a cornerstone marketing asset – this position is responsible for gathering, grading, enhancing, and curating photography.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Photography-Related Duties
- Be primary point of contact with photographers
- Keep running list of photographers availability, location
- Deliver all standard docs to freelancers
- Receive creative assets, get necessary captions and story info
- Color correct
- Photo edit and assign "superior" tags that align with MC brand
- Assemble and collect 3rd party photos to system
- Present monthly photo slideshow
- Build slideshows for lobby monitors, manage the tech and presentation
- Coach staff on search terms that will allow them to find the assets they need
General Duties
- Develop and use file metadata on all uploaded assets so that the database is easily searchable. Ensure the completeness, consistency and accuracy of metadata including: searchable tag words, captions, identifying information, author/photographer credit, location, etc.
- Manage meta-data tagging and details from a business perspective for assets, including text, images, audio, and video.
- Schedule and prioritize all incoming assets of the DAMS.
- Work in partnership with the IT team to keep the DAMS functioning and in good working order.
- Seek out more efficient ways to deliver content to users.
- Host at least two (2) presentations a year to train team members in effective use of the DAMS.
- Maintain ongoing development of essential digital skills and knowledge, including software skills.
- Instruct team members and outside partners on system use.
- Make decisions on access to the DAMS by outside agencies, vendors.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Creative Director
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Creative Department and Resource Development/Fundraising team.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of archival and assets management experience, ideally within a mid-to-large corporation.
- Possess basic knowledge of DAM and meta-data systems.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: web content management, document management, rich media file formats, and server-side functionality.
- Advanced skills in using metadata embedding software (Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, Bridge, etc).
- Be comfortable with taxonomy and archival arrangement and description.
- Exceptional organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work with competing deadlines and ability to adapt to change.
- Comfortable with manipulating, compressing, and transferring of digital image files.
- Photography training and experience.
- Ability to write, edit text and proofread with extreme accuracy and professional tone.
- Be able to interface with all levels of management and a wide spectrum of support personnel is required. Ability to remotely manage projects globally is required.
- Comfortable with both Windows and Mac computer operating systems.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
A successful Content Asset Manager will be a proponent, in-house advocate and expert in DAM for the organization. They will have strong verbal and written communication skills, and be responsive to requests. Additionally they will have keen attention to detail, and the ability to organize a large volume of files according to relevancy and quality. Candidates must be able to listen, learn and adapt to changes in the business needs of the organization. At heart they will have a thorough knowledge of the content housed in the DAMS and ability to access it quickly, and work across teams and with vendors to identify challenges, opportunities and solutions. Finally they will develops relationships with team members in the field and at headquarters to encourage the submission of assets.
LIVING /ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Position is based in Portland, OR. Some evenings/weekends required during emergency responses; occasional travel required within the US. Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC"s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
