Enters timely, complete and accurate information into Animal Control/Sheltering management information system, generates reports; ensures that all necessary forms and supplies are available and in adequate supply; receives and processes payments for services; prepares accurate reconciliation of financial transactions, promotes donation and giving opportunities as appropriate; accepts and acknowledges monetary and in-kind donations. Processes dog park tags, rabies certificates, licenses, liability waivers and facility use permits. Enters timesheet and payroll information into the software system. Organizes and maintains office files and records.
Receives emergency and non-emergency requests for Animal Control services and enters information into Animal Control/Sheltering management information system or other software, explains departmental policies and the laws and ordinances related to Animal Control, dispatches Animal Control Officers using a two-way radio or by telephone, refers calls to other agencies as appropriate. Represents the city and shelter to the community, animal welfare organizations, individuals and businesses. Assists with general animal care duties including: following established disease control protocols to clean, disinfect and maintain shelter areas, participate in stress and disease reduction efforts within the shelter, facilitate and conduct customer/animal interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience, explain the adoption process, complete adoption forms, review and approve or deny adoptions, receive and house owner surrendered and stray animals and collect appropriate fees, obtain information and history on each owner surrendered animal, provide adequate and appropriate food, water and housing, properly scan all incoming animals for microchips, and provide adoption follow up contacts to ensure adoption success. Safely and humanely handle animals of unknown origin, behavior or medical condition. Occasionally vaccinate, provide treatment and deworm animals as requested by the supervisor.
May also assist with euthanasia of animals. Checks animal records to reunite owners with lost pets. Takes photos of incoming animals and uploads them into Animal Control/Sheltering management information system. Reports health or behavior abnormalities to the supervisor, models and encourages the humane treatment of animals. Works cooperatively with other agencies, animal rescue organizations, volunteers, community members, and other employees. May open or close the facility as needed. May participate in off-site adoption events, fundraisers, emergency response to disasters or other related events as needed.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and two years of diversified office clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with animals preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Functions: Knowledge of business English and composition, basic arithmetic, and modern office procedures and equipment; some knowledge of the care and keeping of animals. Some knowledge of animal behavior, treatment, training, and applicable city and state animal codes.
Skill in operating a variety of office equipment; skill in typing, filing and answering the phone.
Ability to maintain accurate and efficient office filing system; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to compose routine correspondence; ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, vendors, and the general public; ability to work with and handle animals safely and humanely; ability to accurately type 30 net words per minute.

Selection Process:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, a written exam, an interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status. The written exam is tentatively scheduled for September 17th.
**Preference may be given to applicants possessing qualifications above the minimum.**
Residency Requirements:
All employees governed by this contract shall reside within an area bordered by State Highway 65 on the east, County Road R-27 north of Boone and Des Moines River south of Highway 30 on the west, Story County line on the north, and Polk County Road F-22 on the south. Communities intersected by the borderlines shall be within the area.
