A versatile position for a Marketing and Communications Associate within a dynamic, hardworking, international non-profit organization that provides relief and long-term recovery to survivors of natural disasters through the use of committed volunteers. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and is responsible for implementing essential components of the overall marketing and communications strategy, including management of social media marketing tools and platforms, online and electronic content creation, and serving as the primary point of contact with field program teams. In addition, this position will have a public relations component and serve as a liaison between media outlets and the organization. In coordination with the director, the incumbent sets goals, tracks metrics and evaluates results within her/his scope of responsibility to ensure that departmental objectives and operating requirements are met and are consistent with the needs and mission of the organization. Position is remote, however, ideal candidate would live in NYC or Boston, MA area and be available for quarterly in-person meetings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Manages the organization’s social media marketing channels and platforms and is a key contributor in growing existing and/or identifying new channels and platforms. Oversees the organization’s social media calendar.


• Acts as a key collaborator in creating and/or implementing effective marketing and communications campaigns that deliver the organization’s key messages to external audiences and stakeholders.


• Serves as the key liaison to field programs teams and acts as a strategic consultant to identify brand enhancing content, news and information opportunities.


• Actively reviews and proactively sources potential media opportunities based on field programs.


• Serves as primary media relations support to the director, including media outreach, story creation and pitch ideas, and drafting press releases. Serves as the key liaison between media outlets and channels.


• Provides writing and editing support for external communications, including marketing materials, website content, newsletters, the annual report, and other materials.


• Coordinates marketing communications projects and manages additional special projects, as needed.


• Acts as a brand steward, upholding brand, messaging and communications standards and consistency across all projects, platforms and materials, and throughout the organization.


• Works collaboratively with a diverse staff and volunteer team to create and manage cross-organizational, integrated marketing strategies.


• Contributes to the development of a marketing and communications strategy that effectively promotes the organization and educates volunteers, donors and other stakeholders.


• Develops and implements communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to the public.


• Stays apprised of industry trends in the digital media and marketing communications spaces. Conducts market research, as directed.


• Travel to post-disaster environments, both domestically and internationally, will be required for up to 50% of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


• 1-2 years professional business or non-profit experience, preferably within a marketing, communications, public relations, or related area.


• Humanitarian, aid or human rights industry experience preferred; international experience is a plus.


• Strong working knowledge of digital media tools and platforms, major social media channels, Microsoft Office Suite, and Mac hardware/software.


• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and video production/editing software, preferred


• A strong communicator, with excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.


• Possesses strong leadership and negotiating skills, with the ability to motivate others.


• Must be able to think creatively and strategically, leveraging keen analytical skills and the ability to interpret, assess and distill information quickly.


• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.


• Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting tight deadlines and remaining calm under pressure.


• Results driven, proactive and able to work autonomously.


• Flexible and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment. Ability to relate to and work with a wide variety of stakeholders
