Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
Receives and screens incoming requests (via land line, cellular or VoIP telephone, radio and computer terminal) for law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services.
Questions callers to determine location and seriousness of emergency and response needed.
Enters information into computer-aided dispatch system.
Provides prearrival instructions to caller.
Forwards caller needs and appropriate response information to Telecommunicators.
Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems. This includes making inquiries/entries into the DCI, or National Crime Information Center through a computer terminal.
Answers or forwards nonemergency requests for assistance.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Qualifications
Education
High school diploma (or GED).
Experience
At least 1 year of relevant experience is required. Applicants may substitute additional relevant education for the required experience.
Additional Information
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic Windows skills and the ability to type a minimum of 2500 kph.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) , Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), Division of Criminal Information (DCI) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certifications are preferred. All certifications are required after hire and are obtained during initial the training.
Note: NC General Statutes and federal guidelines, require US Citzenship in order to obtain Division of Criminal Information (DCI) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
