Serves as an Intern in the DFAS Internship Program performing a variety of assignments involving the practical application of financial principles, procedures, processes and regulations.


Maintains and reconciles accounts and financial records for a small number of accounts.


Receives, reviews, and verifies accuracy and completeness of financial transactions.


Enters data into financial systems, and identifies discrepancies against supporting documentation and system outputs.


Corrects errors caused by contract interpretation, modifications, or erroneous disbursement.


Assists in researching contracts modifications or changes and identifying various funding allocations, obligations or de-obligations.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.


GS-05: Specialized Experience is defined as: experience performing a variety of support functions using standardized procedures that require application and understanding of financial or accounting concepts, policies, principles and regulations.


GS-05 (2-grade interval) Substitution of Education for Experience: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree program in a qualifying educational institution.

Educational enrollment MUST be on a half-time or full-time basis. Half-time basis is defined by the academic institution that the student is enrolled or accepted into.

Individuals selected from this vacancy announcement will work a full-time work schedule for at least eight weeks between the months of May through September. Upon completion of the summer internship period individuals will be placed on leave without pay (LWOP) until completion of their academic program or until they are returned to duty for another period of internship.
