DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs, Manages, and Serves as a lead resource, for telecommunications in the assigned territory.
- Directly manages all Electronic Technicians, Maintainers, and craft foremen assigned to territory.
- Responsible for safety, maintenance and operations break fix, and new projects installation as well as technology initiatives rolled out into territory.
- Manages, coordinates, and plans all maintenance and testing procedures for all telecommunications infrastructure in the assigned area.
- Responsible for estimating cost of capital improvements for both telecom and operations funded initiatives, with an eye towards ROI. Responsible for operating budget for assigned territory.
- Territories assigned closely mirror GM territories across BNSF in terms of size and alignment to divisions. Stakeholders include all transportation, mechanical, engineering and Intermodal customers and the TMM acts as the telecom representative for these individuals (including GM’s, superintendents, hub managers, etc…).
- Proactively creates and establishes regular meetings with key stakeholders to ensure expertise, resources, funding, and progress is obtained and met.
- Position is a 24/7 assignment and requires extensive travel across the territory.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S/B.A or equivalent formal training and experience in telecommunications.
- Generally has 5-10 or more years of project management, field operations management, TMM, or telecommunications experience.
- Proven record of continued personal skill development and keeping abreast of emerging technology.
- Extensive knowledge of telecom networks and systems.
- Must thoroughly understand all corporate safety policies, rules, and procedures to manage and enforce safe work practices.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal customers and department personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiar with collective bargaining agreement and have through knowledge of IBEW agreement to include both former BN and Santa Fe RR’s.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical/business direction across multiple projects and technologies.
- Possesses and leverages facilitation skills.
- Ability to represent department in meetings and decisions within and outside the company.
- Ability to communicate at appropriate levels within the organization and fit information delivery to the audience.
- Excellent written and oral ability.
- Excellent demonstrated time management and organization skills.
- Ability to coach and provide technical assistance to customers and other telecom individuals as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate potential issues and take appropriate action to remedy.
- Consistently takes ownership of issues and resolves problems and effectively communicates results and identify preventative measures to prevent similar occurrences.
- Must be fully qualified and conversant with the MOW Operating Rules.
- Serve as technical consultant for projects under Directors area.
- Act as liaison between TS/ISS, Telecom, and Operations.
- Is an agent for change in department and corporate policies, standards, and technology.
