PSI is seeking a skilled, creative and dynamic candidate with significant diversity of experience and historical success in conducting quality research and using evidence for decision-making. Candidates should have experience and/or show capacity in designing, implementing, and analyzing rigorous quantitative and qualitative research, have strong technical writing skills, and a record of capacity building. The Regional Researcher will be responsible for providing the vision, technical oversight, management, and quality assurance of the research, evaluation and monitoring activities across the region. A key function of this position is to strengthen the PSI network by being a technical and regional resource for information sharing and capacity building. An anticipated start date is November/December 2015.

Strategic Direction
Defining the evidence agenda, by ensuring that the planned research, evaluation and monitoring activities are well-articulated, strategic, and rigorous is critical for ensuring that PSI programs are successful and efficient. This includes managing the research agenda through proposal development processes, developing and executing annual research plans, contributing to the development of consolidated monitoring systems, and providing guidance and oversight to each platforms research objectives.
Relevant, Rigorous and Quality Research
Responding to the organization’s information needs requires knowledge and understanding of research design and an analytical and strategic approach to communicating and maximizing the use of evidence. PSI conducts quantitative, qualitative, operations and marketing studies (ie brand equity, distribution surveys, market share) to provide evidence for decision-making for social marketing activities throughout their design, implementation and evaluation. Across the region, PSI conducts research in the areas of family planning, HIV/AIDS, malaria, nutrition, gender, gender-based violence, water and sanitation, and non-communicable diseases. As new health priorities and opportunities are identified, research teams respond to information needs for proposal development, new product development and program design.

A strong organizational network requires proactive engagement by every network member. Regional and technical resources serve as a bridge to access network resources across the globe and to contribute lessons and experiences with others.
Our needs
- Master’s degree (MA, MPH, MSc) in public health, behavioral sciences, population studies, psychology, communication, or a related field preferred; PhD a plus
- At least five years of professional experience in applied research, monitoring, and evaluation, including field experience in a developing country (experience in Latin America & Caribbean preferred)
- Proven experience successfully building capacity in and mentoring researchers
- Familiarity with MIS systems and processes, particularly use of routine data
- Demonstrated ability to design, analyze, disseminate, and manage monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS, family planning, malaria, or child survival programs
- Experience of developing M&E plans and logical frameworks
- Strong technical writing skills; publishing experience a plus
- Experience in capacity building of research staff/teams
- Experience working in situations of political sensitivity
- Total fluency of Spanish and English required
Repertoire of desired expertise/skills includes: - Experience in market research
- Knowledge of MIS systems, specifically DHIS2
- Experience developing learning materials
