SUMMARY
Customer Service driven position that requires abilities to convey complex information in an easy to understand format. Responsible for the receipt and processing of payments, (negotiable instruments ), such as checks, drafts, wires, ACH, and Credit Cards, and remote depositories, Report of Receipts , from all areas of the City and School. High degree of accuracy is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Receiving direct payments of tax bills, utilities, special assessment bills and offsite department deposits from internal Customers in a positive and professional manner.
- Process and balance, with exact accuracy, all internal Report of Receipts within Collections Department requirements. Ability to identify and resolve Report of Receipts discrepancies immediately. Working knowledge of basic cash accounting and banking offsets.
- Receive and respond appropriately to all inquiries made, in person or over the phone, regarding Taxes Due, Tax Assessments, Municipal Lien Certificates, and Other Accounts Receivable debt due the City.
- Requires in-depth understanding and adherence to all applicable City Ordinances, State statues, and Department policies related to Taxes, Delinquencies of Taxes and Assessment of Taxes.
- Ability to successfully handle difficult and emotional charged situations, and escalate appropriately to Tax Reconciliation Clerk and or Assistant Tax Collector for desired outcome and swift resolution.
- Preparing Tax Bills, Bank Escrows, Municipal Lien Certificates, and other Tax documents
- Ability to identify and accomplish key and or delegated responsibilities in an environment of competing priorities.
- Ability to employ sound reasoning and logic/judgement with any issues with work flow and Customer Service when they arise
- Examining, calculating interest on, endorsing, recording and issuing receipts
- Mailing outgoing collections
- Interface with Collection Agencies for Delinquent Debt payments and pay-offs when in Small Claims status
- Preparing and sending notices and letters to delinquent accounts when payments or end of quarterly requires applicable notification
- Generating reports, lists, and other information using the core system / computer when requested or required
- Verifying, sorting and disbursing checks for payables and payroll
- Must be proficient, intermediate skill level user, in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must be able to pass a math test.
