Prepares, maintains and processes medical record files of patients. Numbers and files loose correspondence.

Processes financial patient information (obtaining/up-dating insurance information, coding visits using ICD9 and CPT codes, entering charges for office/hospital visits; balancing receipts for day and month, responding to questions related to billing from patients/parents and PBO).

Works collaboratively with HIM, Finance, and IT to assure regulatory compliance and maintain HCPCS and ICD-10 standards.

Answers telephone directing calls appropriately including providing accurate and complete information when needed.
1.6
Initiates telephone/facsimile communication to confirm appointments, obtain and communicate referral authorizations.
1.7
Receives and greets patients and visitors.
1.8
Processes mail (in-coming & out-going), delivers mail to appropriate person(s).
1.9
Provides back up and/or support for other administrative medical office assistants and clinical medical office assistants.
1.10
Manages and cares for required resources including supplies, equipment, and facility.
1.11
Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities.
1.12
Provides administrative oversight and training for onsite AMOA’s, to include review of accuracy of demographic and insurance information, workflow and patient throughput, and adherence policy and procedure.
1.13
Provides leadership for coworkers and executes applicable management skills in the event that practice manager is absent from office setting.
1.14
Reports administrative, clinical, physician and patient issues on a daily basis to practice management for review and result.
1.15
May assist patients into wheelchair and transport to lab and radiology.
Job Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Prefer completion of an accredited medical assisting program and 3+ years experience in a medical office.
