We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Assistant Accountant who is looking for a diverse and challenging accounts role. Working in a busy accounts department, you will take responsibility for the day to day bookkeeping of the company as well as assisting the Head of Finance to provide financial information for one of our group companies – DEKRA Expert Limited


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide accurate and timely financial information for management

  • Maintaining the cash book, including recording all bank transactions and ensuring accurate posting to QuickBooks

  • Maintaining the cash pool transactions and ensuring the cash pool agrees with the cash pool leader on a monthly basis

  • Bank reconciliations – ensuring that the bank agrees with the cash book and trial balance on a weekly basis

  • Raising of purchase orders once relevant authorisation has been received

  • Processing supplier invoices, and matching to purchase orders

  • Payment of supplier invoices in a timely manner and within payment terms

  • Creation of sub-contractor payment file to include downloading information from the bespoke VIMS system

  • Ensuring timely payment of sub-contractors by the 12th day of the month

  • Production of sales invoices on a weekly and monthly basis

  • Credit control on a weekly basis to ensure no major overdue debtors

  • Vat returns – calculation and submission of quarterly VAT returns within statutory deadlines

  • Payroll – assistance with processing of payroll using Sage Payroll Professional for both Dekra Expert and Dekra Automotive to include analysis of time sheets for part time workers, calculation of holiday pay when employees leave, calculation of statutory payments etc

  • Monthly reporting to include provision of FLASH reports for group reporting as well as monthly management reporting. This includes analysis of variances month on month and having a full understanding of any variances from budget

  • Provision of ad hoc management information as and when requested by management, ranging from analysis of sales by customer etc

Essential Experience:


  • AAT qualified or qualified by experience is essential

  • ACCA or CIMA qualification preferred

  • Experience on Quick Books would be advantageous but not essential

  • Experience of Sage Payroll would be advantageous but not essential

  • Exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with all issues of business, especially when handling sensitive situations and information

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skill

  • Able to deal confidently and effectively with a wide range of people

  • Ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines and to manage own workload

  • Forward thinking

  • Always looking to improve procedures and documentation
