Mail Clerk job - Department of Veterans Affairs - Orlando, FL





The incumbent serves as a Mail Clerk located in the mail room Lakemont as part of the Logistics Service, which is a department within the Orlando VA Medical Center. The scope of the services encompasses a comprehensive range of support services to veterans throughout Orlando VA Medical Center corporate facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to:

  • Process all incoming and outgoing correspondence (mail) to include all overnight (express) mail by sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing and routing the mail.

  • Meter outgoing mail is based on the category (i.e. certified, Certified with return receipt requested, Registered/ Insured with return receipt, overnight and Parcel) in accordance with VA and Postal Service regulations. All mail is safeguarded by the Mailroom staff until it is picked up by the U.S. Postal Service driver.

  • Picks up outgoing and intra-office mail, reviews for completeness of addresses, regulations, and directives. Processes mail destined for foreign countries in accordance with international mail rates and rules. Log each item to include destination, weight, and amount of postage.

  • Maintains tracking log for all incoming certified, insured, registered, and overnight packages for accountability. Performed on a daily basis.

  • Operates computer terminal to locate patients and employees. Once noted that a patient or former employee is no longer located at the facility, the mail will be returned to sender (former employees must submit to the Postal Service a Change of Address by obtaining and completing the U.S.P.S. change of address kit).

  • Operates basic reproduction equipment to produce document from 25 or more pages, single to double sided, color or black and white, booklets, brochures, tri-fold or bi-fold flyers, and poster 11” x 17”. Delivers completed copy work as directed.

  • Required to order postal supplies from the U. S. Postal Service based on the needs of the unit.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule : Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm.

The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando, including the new Lake Nona campus when it opens. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.
