ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Coordinates, schedules, instructs and/or supervises recreational activities and classes, such as sports, other various recreation programs.
- Coordinates scheduling, staffing, and publicity of programs, services and special events.
- Evaluates effectiveness of recreation areas, facilities, marketing,coaches, and services.
- Assists in the preparation of program budgets; tracks and monitors revenues; authorizes expenditures of department funds and the maintenance of department records.
- Promotes recreation programs by personal presentations coordinated with the department’s Communication office staff, assisting in the preparation of publications, brochures, news releases, flyers, etc.
- Assists with facility scheduling and maintenance.
- Provides customer service by answering questions, providing information and referrals, etc.
- Maintains collaborative planning and working relationships with allied public and voluntary agencies.
- Compiles reports.
- Participates as a member of various department collaborative teams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for the supervision of hourly and seasonal City employee(s) and volunteers, interns, or community service workers.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.
- May require knowledge of sport rules and regulations.
- Familiar with concussion management
- Ability to use and comprehend several computer software programs.
- Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Teaching and training skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Health and Exercise Sciences or related fields; and one to two years related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required.
