Background
UNICEF plays critical role in monitoring the situation of children and women in the world and for reporting on progress toward internationally set goals and targets, such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Toward this end, UNICEF’s Data and Analytics (D&A) Section supports countries to collect necessary data through the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS), maintains a series of global databases on key indicators and conducts statistical analyses of the data for global reporting purposes as well as evidence generating.
To advance programs, policies and research on child survival, UNICEF carries out in-depth analysis of the leading causes of child death, including pneumonia and diarrhea and publishes data and advocacy driven reports to provide global update on progress against these diseases. In 2012, UNICEF’s D&A released a report on “Pneumonia and Diarrhea: tackling the deadliest diseases for the world’s poorest children” that provided a comprehensive update on the burden of these diseases, the prevention and treatment coverage, and issued a call to action for narrowing the gap in child survival.
At this end of the MDG era and the beginning of the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, UNCIEF’ D&A is planning to produce similar report to provide baseline update of the burden and progress made in tackling these two diseases. In this regards, UNICEF is looking for a consultant to support the analysis, write-up and production.
