Stock Clerk - Rock County, WI - Janesville, WI

Must possess a valid Class A Commerical Driver’s License (CDL, Class A) when hired .

Work involves maintaining records of materials received, in inventory, returned, and on order. Monitors all fuel expenditures for billing purposes. Maintains, gathers, organizes and bills all purchase orders and invoices. Will assist in DPW dispatching when necessary.


Work closely with the Storekeeper to supply and distribute parts and supplies to the Public Works Staff :

1. Order and receive parts, inventory parts, and assure parts are allocated in a proper manner.

2. Communicate with Vendors regarding parts ordering, receiving, and returning of parts.

3. Deliver fuel to all sites, vehicles, and equipment as needed. Monitor and track all fuel expenditures. Reconciling the collected data to purchased fuel via multiple vendors.

5. Gather, organize, and Bill all purchase orders for vendors through out Public Works.

4. Work within the County’s Fleet Maintenance Software System with regards to parts and work orders.


Communicate with Law Enforcement in matters of emergency

1.Receive calls from law enforcement for assistance with needed road repairs

2. Dispatch appropriate staff


Performs related tasks as required.

1. Assist all staff as well as members of the public as needed

2. Assist with Public Works dispatch.


Success Factors (KSA’s):


– Knowledge of purchasing, requisitioning, and stocking methods and procedures.

– Knowledge of various kinds and grades of parts, supplies and materials stored.

– Knowledge of heavy equipment, repair, diesel engines, hydraulic systems.

– Knowledge of basic skills related to operation of a stockroom, computerized inventory control, order/

reorder and purchase order processing.

– Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing the purchasing of goods and supplies.

– Knowledge of the functions and purchasing needs of the department supplies.

– Knowledge of computers and various computer software (i.e Word, Excel, Access, etc).

– Ability to work with in a large stockroom for receiving, storing, and issuing parts and supplies and to keep

pertinent inventory records and related reports.

-Ability to use office equipment (i.e phone, fax, calculator, etc)

– Ability to multi task with speed and accuracy.

– Ability to receive, communicate, and carry out written and oral instructions.

– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships .

– Ability to read and understand technical bulletins and parts lists.

– Ability to lift and move objects.


Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience:


– High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience sufficient to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position.

– Must possess a valid Class A Commerical Driver’s License (CDL, Class A) when hired.

-Position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules and regulations. Testing negative on required test is a condition of employment.

-Employee will be required to report to work at any time to work in emergency conditions such as snowstorms, flooding, etc.


Essential Job Functions (physical elements, equipment and working conditions):


Physical Elements:


Lift, push, pull: Must be able to:


– lift and carry up to 80 lbs.

– shovel gravel into to wheel barrow

– lift snow fence rolls, push and roll it up to 50 feet and install 7′ metal posts using a post pounder

– lift to 8 foot high signs and hold in place

– shovel asphalt (30 lbs/ shovel full)


Bending, squatting, kneeling: Must be able to:


– bend, squat, kneel in order to perform maintenance activities


Climbing, overhead work: Must be able to:


– climb ladders

– enter and exit truck cab or other equipment by stepping onto a step up to 24 inches from the ground


Equipment Use:


– a variety of vehicles and equipment such as single, multiple axle and four wheel drive trucks, tractor

mowers, small to medium sized end loaders, asphalt rollers, tractor backhoes, etc.

– lift and operate portable power tools such as chain saws, cut off saws, jack hammers (6o lbs), rotary

hammer drills, and various other types of maintenance and construction equipment.


Working conditions:


– Duties are performed mainly in the stockroom but may be outside in extreme conditions.
