INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:


The ExpandFP Project Intern will support the implementation of EngenderHealth’s ExpandFP project, which seeks to increase access to and use of family planning (FP), with a focus on hormonal implants and in a context of voluntarism and informed choice. Funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the project is under way in three countries with great need for FP in Sub-Saharan Africa: the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and Uganda. Reporting to the Program Associate for the ExpandFP project, the intern will play an important role in supporting project coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and research (MER), and knowledge management. The intern will gain understanding of the many components involved in managing a global family planning project from the headquarters level, while having access to additional technical experts and opportunities for learning within EngenderHealth.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist is project management and administration, including review and preparation of budgetary documents, consulting agreements, and other materials as needed.

  • Assume responsibility for key knowledge management components of the project, including drafting and/or reviewing of blog posts, success stories, project briefs, and other products for dissemination to varied audiences.

  • Assist in monitoring & evaluation of the project, including support for project midline assessments, data analysis, and data entry under the guidance of the Program Associate for MER

  • Manage internal EngenderHealth project intranet page

  • Research areas of technical interest to the project (such as post-partum family planning, use of technology and mobile platforms, etc.) to ensure programmatic activities are based on the latest evidence. This may include participating in relevant off-site meetings and brownbags in addition to desk research.

  • Liaise with EngenderHealth field-based staff as well as other headquarters teams (such as MER, various technical advisors, financial and administrative staff, etc.) as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree or related advanced degree relevant to the field of family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH).

  • At least 2 years’ experience with the coordination and implementation of donor programs, preferably relevant to FP/RH

  • Demonstrated administrative, organizational and programmatic skills working with technical, programmatic, monitoring and evaluation, and finance staff based in the same location as well as internationally

  • Demonstrated experience developing or contributing to the development of project documentation for external audiences (blog posts, briefs, etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of coordinating teamwork and high-performing teams

  • Excellent English and French written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis is an advantage
