SPECIMEN LAB COLLECTOR
Definition
Lab Collector provides information and overall assistance to clients/patients regarding laboratory specimen procedures and collection. Act as a liaison between the laboratory and physicians and their office staff, patients, and all hospital staff. The Lab Collector provides proper setup, transportation, preservation and documentation for all samples received. Coordinate specimen processing activities with the personnel in the main laboratory departments. This position works closely with the Client Manager and Sales Director in providing all necessary assistance to meet the needs of our clients. Under no circumstances is the Lab Collector position permitted to perform medical office duties unrelated to the collection of specimen.

Essential Functions
· Coordinate collection of specimen sample for laboratory testing.
· Communicates pertinent laboratory information to healthcare providers including patient test results or established laboratory practices.
· Meet and greet patients and explain urinalysis process.
· Receive specimen and prepare for delivery to lab.
· Evaluate requests for accuracy and completeness, placing orders, verifying labeling/identification, and following appropriate protocol in handling specimens. Collector is responsible to obtain patient demographic and insurance data.
· Verifies the correct specimen type; handles appropriately and appropriately prioritizes. May record workloads.
· Prepares materials for testing. Identifies obstacles and recommends strategies and process improvements to overcome.
· Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures. Verifies order upon receipt.
· Advises and work closely with Client Managers.
· Coordinate projects as needed.
· Upon request travel to various clinics to conduct specimen testing as needed.
Basic Qualifications
Educational and/or Professional
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 6 months of applicable healthcare experience. A combination of education/experience may be substituted for by experience.
Other Special Training/Skills
- Proficiency in reading, writing, comprehending and speaking English as required for business necessity
- Communication/interpersonal skills including oral and visual
- Working knowledge of medical office duties and working knowledge of windows based computer systems.
- Experience in a clinical lab environment or related field preferred.
