The Packaging Coordinator coordinates artwork changes from receipt of artwork from the design firm to the printer. This position is also responsible for coordinating with Purchasing and Materials planning to plan timely packaging graphics transitions and minimize empty packaging obsolescence. The Packaging Coordinator also keeps all packaging-related systems up-do-date.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate the packaging approval process on all branded package changes.(inner and/or outer packaging) (50%)
- Communicate with the marketing and legal department concerning changes on Branded packaging.
- Serve as liaison with outside packaging coordinators to translate artwork specifications to plates; work with agency to adjust artwork as needed to reflect supplier capabilities and achieve cost savings where possible
- Coordinate and communicate artwork/printing plate completion dates to materials planning for ordering of packaging.
- Travel to printers for press approvals as needed
- Coordinate the packaging development and redesign process of all Private Label labels. (25%)
- Coordinate all label changes between retailers, 3rd party art house and printers. (Die line requests, proof approvals etc.)
- Coordinate and communicate artwork/printing plate completion dates to logistics for ordering of packaging.
- Communicate on kosher and other certifications (e.g. Fair Trade and Non-GMO) with appropriate certification manager to ensure packaging is accurate and certification requirements are met
- Packaging IT Systems (25%)
- Request new material numbers and empty packaging numbers for SAP. Work with data group to supply information needed to populate material master, GS1 database, and PLM system
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school diploma
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role or a packaging printer. Knowledge of FDA packaging requirements and how to translate artwork to finished packaging.
- Ability to execute packaging projects from start to completion with attention to detail.
- Relates well with others across all levels of the organization; builds appropriate rapport; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact.
- Ability to deliver individually as well as work with varying groups and co-workers on larger multi-faceted initiatives
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and graphics programs) plus ability to learn new IT systems quickly
- Ability to travel overnight and work occasional weekends is required (10%)
