This position performs a variety of tasks involved in routine operations and maintenance of the State park.
Responsibilities include:
1. Greet park visitors and provide information on the park, park rules and regulations, and other local attractions.
2. Sell vehicle permits and register campers.
3. Sell and stock various products (e.g. firewood, souvenirs).
4. Answer phones and radio messages.
5. File paperwork, prepare and submit reports, forms, correspondence, etc.
6. Clean floors, windows, bathroom facilities, fixtures; dispose of waste materials, etc. at contact station.
7. Maintain buildings and grounds (e.g. mow lawns, trim shrubs, apply pesticides, paint buildings, plant trees and clean fire rings).
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
2. Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other park employees.
3. Arithmetic skills sufficient to accurately collect money from the public for various fees.
4. Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, etc.
5. Ability to operate a phone, two way radio, computer and other office equipment.
-Requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
-Requires a Class D Driver’s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Minnesota State park rules, policies and facilities.
- General office experience including, but not limited to filing, typing and answering phones.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office and other proprietary software.
- Experience in retail operations.
- Experience operating a cash register and/or handling money.
