POSITION DESCRIPTION
:


Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is seeking a highly motivated person to fill a Park Ranger position.
This is reasonably independent work providing professional visitor services, fee collection, and a wide range of administrative duties, natural/cultural resource management, interpretive programming and maintenance at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. In addition, this park provides homes for over 300 animal species, many of which are endangered. This animal collection requires daily care and extensive routine/cyclical maintenance to the facilities the animals inhabit. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


This is moderately independent work providing visitor services, resource management, maintenance, administration and protection of Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park. This position is assigned to the boat/tram tour operation of the park.


VISITOR SERVICES
– Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs and unit specific services via boat/tram tours, guided walks and lecture programs. Provides visitor services in conjunction with other park staff and volunteers.


RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
– Observes, maintains and protects the natural, cultural, historic and archaeological resources of the park. Implements vegetation and wildlife management plans; recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects. Collects and records resource management data


MAINTENANCE
– Constructs, cleans, maintains and repairs park grounds, facilities and equipment utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Makes routine inspections to insure proper maintenance standards are met


ADMINISTRATION
– Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects. Operates park radio, telephones, and cash registers. Conducts purchasing and fiscal activities in compliance with established Division procedures. Performs administrative tasks relative to volunteers and facility maintenance.


PROTECTION
– Takes appropriate action to insure visitor safety and adherence to park rules pertaining to all facilities and resources and use thereof for the enjoyment of the visitor; insures adherence to the Park Protection Plan.


Performs other related work as required


Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:


Knowledge of
general maintenance and mechanical techniques and repairs.


Skill in
operating assorted power/gas tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.


Ability to:
conduct interpretive programs on a daily basis; work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities; operate boats and trams/trucks; work with the public in a courteous manner; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; provide visitor assistance services; understand and apply rules and regulations; maintain facilities and equipment; operate two-way radio; work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays; successfully complete Ranger Academy; successfully complete background check and fingerprint check; maintain valid driver’s license.
