Chemonics seeks a Washington, D.C.-based director for our new business support team. The director will provide vision, leadership, and management to priority projects and new business efforts in support of company growth. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide internal capacity building and leadership, including as a technical writer or reviewer, and serve in a quality assurance role on priority proposals; ensure appropriate use of integrated approaches
- Interpret data and develop strategies to achieve targets, anticipating forward market changes
- Conceptualize, articulate, and lead technical assignments
- Recommend new business strategies to streamline systems for considering client needs, team dynamics, and division and corporate mission
- Lead and direct the new business and work planning process
- Identify critical capacities and relationships for the market and work to create strong partnerships
- Provide technical expertise in a range of areas, including identifying and integrating expertise, successes, and/or innovations into new business efforts
- Undertake assignments on projects or special initiatives, including short- and long-term billable assignments
- Collaborate with new business staff to understand and better respond to clients’ needs
- Conceptualize, develop, and deliver tools, guidelines, and training materials consistent with corporate policies and best practices for new business efforts
- Mentor and coach staff in new business processes and strategic approaches
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and work experience in relevant technical area
- Minimum eight years of administrative and/or technically relevant work experience
- Knowledge of USAID and its operations required
- Experience leading proposals for US Government-funded international development programs.
- Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge
- Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage significant activities, budgets, and resources to produce and take responsibility for results
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives
- Willingness to travel and work abroad in developing countries four to eight weeks per year
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in foreign language preferred
