The Payment Processor position in the Payment Operations Section of Customer Revenue will be responsible for all applicable Customer Revenue payment operational business processes. We are seeking the right individual to join a high functioning team that directly contributes to the future success of Colorado Springs Utilities.

Responsibilities and Duties :


  • Manually process payments received through the mail and drop boxes

  • Operate remittance equipment to process payments. Submit electronic deposits to the bank

  • Manage electronic payments for customers that utilize various payment channels

  • Process donations for COPE

  • Review payment reports and research payment related issues or errors

  • Occasionally, accept cash and check payments from Lobby customers

  • Balance daily work for bank reconciliation

  • Process return payment items in collaboration with Credit Operations’ collection efforts

  • Generate reports as needed

  • Perform other functions and responsibilities as needed

From accepting payments, operating the remittance processing equipment, processing electronic payments and managing return payments, you will be continually challenged. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated team whose core business hours are between 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and duties on a bi-weekly/monthly basis. What will it take to be successful? Most people in this occupation would have completed a high school diploma or GED and have six months to two years experience in relevant customer service oriented field. The IDEAL candidate will have at least the above experience and at least two years of experience in payment processing or data entry. The successful candidate will be a fast learner, highly organized, have a strong ability to multi-task, with strong attention to detail, be able to problem solve and review their work products for accuracy. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate, through a thorough testing and interview process, proficiency in:


  • 10-key, MS Word and MS Excel;

  • Cashiering and cash handling procedures;

  • Processing transactions; and,

  • Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation
