Background
UNICEF has been the leader in generating high quality data on the situation of children and women for the past 30 years. UNICEF plays a vital role in supporting governments with: data collection at the outcome and impact level through the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS); compilation and analysis of data; and, disseminating these data to inform sound policies, legislation, and programmes for promoting children’s rights. UNICEF effectively uses its unique position in global monitoring and its large country presence to make the most out of the data it collects and compiles, using data to advocate for the well-being of children both at the highest levels of government, as well as in the international policy fora. UNICEF provides public access to its global databases and analytical reports through its statistics website data.unicef.org.
Purpose
Making use of data to influence policies and programmes is a critically important area of work. The purpose of this contract is to produce high quality design, layout, and typesetting of reports, brochures, web based materials, etc. for various data related outputs.
Details
Work includes copy-editing of:
· Various sector specific reports/brochures including: HIV/AIDS, Child Protection, Health, Nutrition, etc.
· Cross-sectoral reports/brochures including the APR snapshot, MDG brochure, Africa Brochure, etc.
The outcomes will contribute to showcasing in publications in hard and soft copies or online, at technical meetings and major conferences, among others. The consultant (copy-editor) will be responsible for ensuring that each document is edited to conform to the UNICEF Style Guide maintained by the Division of Communication.

Duty Station
Consultancy is expected to be home based with possible travel to NY.
Timeframe
The duration of the assignment is 75 working days starting August 3, 2015, ending on December 31, 2015.
Key skills, technical background, and experience required:
- Educational background in copy-editing.
- More than 3-5 years of relevant professional mid-level experience.
- Relevant experience working on copy-editing data driven reports and brochures in the areas of relevance to UNICEF including the in the area of health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, education, child protection, etc.
- Strong writing, editorial and communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Troubleshooting skills.
- Working experience and knowledge of UNICEF publications and standards.
- Available on short notice and track record of timely delivery.
- Consultant expected to work remotely and to be available for discussions as needed.
