The Deputy Clerk (Grade 7) within the Civil division of Lynchburg General District Court is assigned operational responsibilities in a fast paced, high volume office with multitasking and frequent deadlines. Ensures court instruction is executed and legal documents are prepared accurately and in accordance with appropriate policies and judicial instructions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Handle a wide range of complex clerical and financial tasks to include: assessing court costs accurately, accept and receipt payments, process court documents, as well as data entry and alphanumeric filing. Researches and provides verbal or written information requested by the public, attorneys, other government organizations, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
High School degree or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have knowledge of Civil case processes (Warrant in Debt, Unlawful Detainer, etc.) be detailed oriented to include a high degree of accuracy and the ability to manage priorities. Must be able to explain procedures in a clear and easy to understand manner in person and on the phone. Experience handling money is highly desirable. A combination of education and experience is required to provide competence in the areas of responsibility. Court, business, or office-related experience in a variety of general office operations and procedures (e.g., data entry, knowledge of personal computers, competence in automated records and financial systems, filing systems, bookkeeping, etc.) is desired. Assumes additional responsibilities on a temporary basis other than those primarily assigned to the position as required by management.
