Save the Children is anticipating being awarded a multi-year, $20 million grant to introduce pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention in 5 countries. If awarded, Save the Children will implement the project in 5 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. As a result, we are currently seeking an experienced Project Director who will manage and oversee implementation of project activities. The Project Director should have: significant senior technical, leadership, and financial management experience, ideally managing large multi-million dollar budgets; and, experience successfully implementing international health programs centered on HIV prevention. Demonstrated track record in research, international development experience and experience successfully managing government, donor, and sub-grantee relations are also desired.


A successful candidate will have experience implementing demonstration projects involving PrEP, with extensive knowledge of the relevant scientific literature on PrEP and major PrEP donors. This position will be based in Washington, DC and will coordinate teams in countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. This is a full time position that reports to the Senior Director of the HIV/TB unit in the Department of Global Health.


30-45% international travel required in year 1, and can be reduced in subsequent years.


Requirements


  • The candidate should possess an advanced degree (MD, PhD, DrPh or equivalent education) and master’s level degree (MPH, MSc) with additional years of experience in international development;

  • At least 10 years of experience in research projects, programmatic and financial management of large, complex donor-funded health programs;

  • Highly knowledgeable in HIV combination prevention, including the use of microbicides, VMMC, PrEP;

  • Must be comfortable in representing the program vis-à-vis various audiences and stakeholders, including government, donors, sub-grantees, multilateral organizations, beneficiary communities, the media and civil society;

  • Capacity-building experience in a developing country;

  • Experience with advocacy and institutional development within government channels;

  • Experience with social marketing is a plus;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, extensive computer skills, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, and be highly motivated and organized;

  • Fluency in oral and written English. French language skills of added advantage.
