The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is accepting on-line applications for FUTURE VACANCIES for the position of Track Laborer in its Railroad, Suburban and City Transit Division Maintenance Departments. The position requires having a valid Driver’s License or equivalent. Additionally, an applicant must satisfactorily complete written qualifications tests. The job of Track Laborer involves performing hard, physical and heavy work, similar to that of a construction laborer, using a pick, shovel, jack hammer and other track related equipment to excavate street tracks, railroad tracks, ties in ballast, and other track components. We are seeking applicants with paid working experience in one or more of the following areas: track maintenance, road construction, roofing, manual labor, demolition or landscaping. Additional job duties include mixing and finishing concrete, cleaning out drains, cutting trees and brush, loading and unloading materials and supplies, snow and ice removal, etc. Further, the candidate selected for this important position at SEPTA will learn to use an oxyacetylene torch and rail saw for cutting rails and other tools such as grinder, tie bore and impact machine, generic to track maintenance and construction work. The Track Laborer must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, nights, evenings, holidays and additional hours (without notice), and in all types of weather conditions, to respond to emergencies and snow removal activities. Excellent attendance, punctuality and dependability are required. The starting rate will vary depending on assigned location.
