Skype and Lync are for doing things together, whenever you’re apart.
We make it simple to share experiences - big or small - with the people that matter to you, wherever they are.
Our technology lets people work with colleagues, hold a meeting, share stories, celebrate birthdays, learn a language - just about anything you need to do together every day.
It’s all made possible by the people who work here. And you could be one of them.
Interaction Designer II, Skype
The Skype design team is looking for an Interaction Designer to help us create a new user engagement platform on the web that’s built around the Skype brand, connecting customers and merchants online.
They’ll work closely with other designers and researchers across the Skype team, product managers, developers and end users to create web based experiences that seamlessly integrate with other products in the Microsoft portfolio, while upholding the core brand principles and patterns that users are familiar with in both Skype clients and the skype.com web site today.
What you will do:
Lead the design process for a new web based platform: creating workflows, defining information architecture and creating wireframes to illustrate the experience for merchants and consumers alike.
Work closely with the local development team to ensure that design specifications are implemented as originally intended.
Understand the needs of consumers, merchants and Skype internal stakeholders to develop design solutions that scale across different devices and user scenarios.
Who we are looking for:
A BA/BS or higher degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Communication Arts, or field related degree.
4+ years (post education) related UX design experience in product, company or agency.
Ability to create highly polished design prototypes, mockups, and other communication artifacts to help sell the vision to product stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally with teams in different geographies to create a coherent and aligned experience.
Attention to detail on the finer points of implementation - type ramps, grids, scalable components and responsive layouts to name but a few.
Proficiency with design and prototyping tools, particularly Creative Suite - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
Excellent presentation, storytelling and organisational skills.
Required
A portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity and proven experience in telling stories, building UI models, generating detailed wire frames, developing prototypes and delivering comprehensive specifications. Please indicate your specific roles and contributions for each project submitted as part of the portfolio.
