The Microsoft Devices team is seeking an experienced power systems designer to help deliver the next world changing stealth project. The position primarily involves system level DC-DC converters, system power and analog design.
Key Qualifications
Candidate must have direct experience of power supply design and possess deep knowledge of DC-DC power conversion topologies such as buck, boost, and buck-boost.
Must be closely familiar with DC-DC voltage regulator silicon architectures, magnetics design and HDI PCB design
Deep understanding of analog and digital control loops and multi-phase converter design.
§ Adept in the use of Spice based simulation tools
§ Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to guide critical decisions with limited data and short deadlines
§ Possess good understanding of thermals, mechanical and packaging challenges. Must possess knowledge of high volume manufacturing technologies and production variance
§ Proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams.
§ Proven track record of working in fast paced work environment.
§ Ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power electronics applied to consumer electronics design
Daily Activities
This person will own the CPU/GPU and peripheral power system including:
o circuit schematic and BOM;
o work with PCB layout team for form factor DC-DC implementation. Must be able to use schematic capture, BOM generation and Spice based simulation tools.
o driving bring-up, debug, validation, and implementation of design changes for the system PMIC design
o work closely with systems team for DC-DC power designs integration, simulations and system level validation.
Provide prototypes, test and validate results
Provide single/multiphase DC-DC concept design simulation, and analytical models for prediction of control loop stability, transient response, layout analysis and efficiency.
Work with DC-DC power vendors including silicon and magnetic vendors.
Perform competitive benchmarking
Provide technical support for production issues debug and resolutions at overseas contractors
