Summary
Save the Children’s Health, Nutrition, HIV, and WASH Global Initiative (HN-GI) provides a framework through which the 30 Save the Children member countries and more than 90 Save the Children International presence countries align as a network to eliminate preventable child deaths. Through a small team based in Washington DC and London, England, the HN-GI is responsible for: This position can be located in Washington DC, or London.
- Establishing the organizations health and nutrition strategic direction, policies and standards
- Forwarding the organizations health and nutrition signature programs
- Coordinating the development of the organizations health and nutrition work force
- Harmonizing the provision of health and nutrition technical assistance across the organization
- Enhancing health and nutrition related learning, knowledge sharing, and communication across the organization
- Developing and diversifying the organizations health and nutrition funding and,
- Monitoring and measuring the organizations health and nutrition related reach and impact
The HN-GI is seeking a talented knowledge management practitioner to serve as the team’s primary point person with respect to SharePoint and the application of technology to achieve KM related outcomes. Specifically, we seek a full-time staff person to perform the following functions:
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact
SharePoint Management
Develop and maintain the health and nutrition internal intranet site (SharePoint 2013)
- Interface with leadership to understand GI needs and ensure the SharePoint 2013 platform serves those needs in an efficient and effective fashion
- Update SharePoint content on a regular basis and on-demand, ensuring consistency with editorial, brand, and design specifications. Liaise with external vendors for editing and design related services.
- Monitor site performance and usage, produce regular reports and recommendations for improving the SharePoint experience
- Build strong relationships with intranet and IT owners to ensure Health and Nutrition needs are accommodated within the broader organizational platform
- Stay abreast of the latest SharePoint and add-on technology and identify innovative mechanisms for improving the GI’s SharePoint site
- Represent GI interests in broad organizational dialogue around the sharing of content through an external facing platform(s)
Document, Video, and Photo Cataloguing
In collaboration with the Save the Children International, develop and populate a searchable document and video library within the SharePoint platform
- With guidance from GI leadership, develop protocol for the posting and cataloguing of library resources
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across the movement to upload and catalogue resources, and populate the library
- Oversee day to day management of the library, ensuring application of established protocols
Database Development and Management
Serve as the team’s primary resource with respect to database development and management and maintenance of key programming dashboards
- Under the leadership of Save the Children International and in collaboration with other GIs, support development of a searchable, movement wide, staff directory. Ensure the directory serves GI related needs, with particular focus on the Health and Nutrition GI
- Monitor the global directory to ensure health and nutrition staff are adequately and fully represented, and ensure regular updating of GI workforce dashboards, contact lists and distribution lists
- With support from SCI, customize interactive program dashboards for each health and nutrition sub-thematic area. Ensure the dashboards comply with editorial and brand guidance, are regularly updated, and are easily accessible through the GI’s SharePoint space
- In collaboration with SCI and other GIs, support development of an interactive dashboards for Reach data. Ensure dashboard is regularly updated and easily accessible
- In collaboration with SCI, other GIs and members, support development of a “Raise” dashboard
Information and Communication Technology Management
Serve as the team’s primary point person on matters pertaining to information and communication technology
- Interface with SCI and HN communities of practice to identify the most appropriate technology solution for specific communication needs
- Support GI team members or other key GI stakeholders in applying relevant communication solutions:
- Provide technical support and backstop for webinars where required
- Provide guidance and technical support with respect to GI engagement with social media as a means of both internal and external communication
- Provide guidance and technical support in adopting other interactive communication technologies as requested
- Provide technical support and backstop for routine virtual GI team meetings
- Perform other functions as required by GI stakeholders
- Stay abreast of the latest communication technology and identify innovative mechanisms for improving cross-organization global communication
Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors
- BA or BS in knowledge management or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of working experience in the field of KM or IT
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of SharePoint 2010 or 2013
- Demonstrated proficiency in the development and management of data bases and/or document catalogues
- Familiarity with the state of the art in communication technology, including the application of social media to accommodate business related needs
- Ability to work across cultures and as part of a geographically disperse team
- Ability to work with, and communicate with, IT professionals across the movement
- Familiarity with public health and nutrition or a related a field preferred
- Experience with or within low-income countries preferred
