This position is assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau, Youth and Family Services Division.
The Cellblock Processing Technician ensures that arrestee are searched, fingerprinted, photographed and held in secure and safe custody.
Major Duties
- Conducts a cell check to determine correct location of prisoners and that there are no weapons or contrabands in the cell
- Provides food and drink to prisoners as scheduled
- Inspects vehicles that are used to transport prisoners for safety and free of weapons
- Completes the Daily Vehicle Inspection and Activity Report
- Ensures that prisoners are processed within one (1) hour of arrival
- Subdues unruly or combative prisoners and uses the minimum level of force
- Testifies in court when necessary
- Assists in booking prisoners to include, logging check-in-times, tag checks, WALES check, etc.
- Maintains security of the Cellblock by ensuring that all entrances are locked
- Receives, reviews and verifies arrest packages from the transport officer for accuracy and completeness of information
- Resolves discrepancies with the transport officer and enters information in the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
The following skills are required:
- Comprehensive knowledge of arrestee processing procedures
- Proficient in applying physical restraint to subdue combative persons
- Ability to operate photography equipment and computerized fingerprint system
Licensures, Certifications and other requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Work Experience One full year of specialized experience working in or related field
Work Environment The employee works in a secured controlled, closed, isolated environment and may be exposed to violent and hostile persons that may have contagious diseases. Contact with certain persons may require the employee to wear gloves and mask and use of lice spray.
Other Significant Factors:
- The Metropolitan Police Department is a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation. Your position may be considered an Essential Position, and you may be subject to rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays.
- This position is subject to a satisfactory medical, psychological examination and completion of training received at the Metropolitan Police Department, Maurice T. Turner, Jr. Metropolitan Police Academy.
- A comprehensive background investigation including criminal history and credit checks are required for positions within the Metropolitan Police Department
