The Library Clerk performs a variety of support functions within West Slope Community Library which includes: checking in and shelving library materials; assisting with the maintenance of library collections; conducting searches for materials; processing materials; and providing backup customer service including check-out of materials and registering patrons.
Please note: this is an unbenefited position and will be scheduled to work multiple evenings per week and every Saturday, not to exceed 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Duties may include:
1. Checking in materials; sorting and arranging materials on carts for shelving or into taskets; shelving; shelf reading; and retrieving items from lists to fill hold requests and to weed the collection.
2. Inspecting returned materials for damage; repairing materials; creating/applying covers, tags and labels for new items; and deleting library materials from catalog.
3. Using integrated library system for circulation and cataloging maintenance; backing up library assistants at circulation desk by checking out materials, collecting fines, and providing routine information to patrons.
4. Creating new patrons accounts in library system; verifying patron account information; and issuing and/or renewing library cards following library policy and procedures.
5. Performing opening or closing tasks; replenishing supplies; checking and powering on/off equipment; opening or securing gates and doors.
6. Assisting other staff with special programs for the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience :
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
1. A high school diploma or equivalent; and
2. One year of general clerical experience in providing customer service to the public.
Please note: preference will be given to candidates who possess at least one year of recent experience providing customer service in a public library.
