What You Will Do
Under the direction of the SAFE-2 Access Control Team Leader, serves as a member of the Badge Office Team. This position is responsible for work done in two primary areas – DOE/local site badging services and control of classified visits. The job encompasses carrying out the full range of badging and visit control activities, including: adherence to Laboratory requirements and DOE policy relating to the certification and approval of official visits that involve the exchange of classified matter (this program involves both incoming and outgoing classified visits); the issuance and fabrication of DOE standard badges, temporary badges, cleared and uncleared visitor badges, uncleared foreign national badges, and other badges as required. The duties of this Security Specialist 1 position also include serving at the customer service station which includes providing a full-range of expert assistance to customers by telephone, and in-person; forms control, review, and approval; and customer assistance using a variety of databases and web sites. As a Security Specialist, the successful applicant works independently in performing his or her duties. The consequences of the work have direct impact on the national security of the Laboratory and DOE.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of the technical and procedural databases used for badging, visitor control, and clearance procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of LANL requirements and DOE policy relating to the certification and approval of official visits that involve the exchange of classified matter (both incoming and outgoing classified visits) and badging policies for cleared and uncleared visitors.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills to interpret and explain (in-person and on the telephone)
- complex DOE and Laboratory requirements, rules, procedures and policies.
- Demonstrated customer service skills including experience interacting successfully with all levels of employees and management, external customers, and other government agencies, etc.
- Proven experience working effectively in a team-structured environment that is oriented to process improvement.
- Demonstrated accuracy in work that requires strong attention to detail and where high levels of accuracy are mandatory.
- Effective computer skills that include standard software applications, e-mail, Lab-wide systems, Web, etc.
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance.
Desired Skills:
- Excellent written communication skills and experience accurately interpreting official Laboratory forms.
- Skilled in problem solving within a customer service environment.
Education: Associate’s Degree or Business College Degree in information, records management, or security-related field and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of formal training and relevant work experience.
Additional Details:
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Pre-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
