Position Summary
The Donor Relations Officer implements strategies for securing and sustaining financial support from a portfolio of corporate and individual donors on behalf of Freedom House. The position manages the day-to-day responsibilities of fundraising. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Development Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Four or more years of experience in fundraising and donor relations
- Strong ability to communicate persuasively, both verbally and in writing
- Background or demonstrated interest in human rights, democracy, and/or international affairs preferred
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
- Proficiency with MS Office; and ability to learn a donor database such as “Salsa”
- Outstanding organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to maintain composure, flexibility, and a sense of humor under tight deadlines.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and research new individual, major, and corporate prospects
- Manage the individual donor outreach system
- Plan and coordinate special projects and donor events such as recognition gatherings, trips, luncheons, special dinners, conferences, and one-on-one donor meetings
- Manage fundraising strategies and activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors
- Create and maintain prospect files on individual and corporate donors
- Coordinate donor acknowledgement program
- Draft fundraising materials for donors and prospects
- Increase the number of individual donors and secure donations in the $1,000-$5,000 range
- Other duties as assigned.
