Perform various duties involving the maintenance of ledgers or accounting data.
Balancing, reconciling and researching discrepancies; assisting higher graded technicians in maintaining more complex accounts; receiving a limited variety of accounting documents and/or transactions.
Reviewing and examining accounting documents verifying the mathematical accuracy and completeness of data and determining necessary processing actions.
Reviewing documents for correct authorizations and validity of accounting classifications; classification of a group of related transactions to proper account codes; posting and inputting data verified against source documents into automated accounting systems.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience is defined as: experience using standardized procedures to process recurring financial transactions; entering data into accounting systems; and correcting invalid/incorrect entries.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

Accounting Concepts, Policies and Principles – Apply federal accounting standards, fiscal law, policies, regulations, principles, standards, internal controls and procedures to financial management activities.
Financial Management Systems – Utilize integrated federal financial management systems and sub-systems to extract data, identify and resolve system problems, and maintain data integrity.
Fundamentals and Operations of Accounting – Research and analyze information related to accounting processes to ensure completeness and accuracy of accounting transactions.
Communication – Ability to communicate effectively to a varied audience.
