The candidate for this position will support engineering collaboration tools for the broader engineering community at Broadcom. The candidate will leverage their technical education in programming, utilizing java script, java, perl, and potentially python, as well as SQL for both MySQL and MS SQL databases, to become a superior support engineer for collaboration platforms. Chief among the platforms is currently Atlassian Confluence. Working with a back-end team tasked to support the inner workings of Confluence and Confluence plug-ins, the candidate will interface directly with engineering users to solve their use problems, teach them super user Confluence skills, and otherwise help the engineering community effectively collaborate using Confluence.
The candidate will be a member of the Engineering Collaboration IT Team tasked to drive the roadmap for engineering collaboration at Broadcom over the next 3-5+ years. The candidate will be expected to build a deep understanding of the collaborative work methods in place today in the various business units and will drive improved effectiveness in the use of the engineering collaboration tools. Engineers post issues against the collaboration tools within the Broadcom IT Help system and this role requires the effective management of these tickets, solving issues in a timely manner and keeping the engineering users informed of issue status.
We are seeking someone who will have the ability to rapidly ramp their knowledge of the collaboration tools and methods currently in use. The candidate should exhibit good attention to detail, and be driven to complete tasks with an emphasis on quality. The candidate for this position should have experience and expertise in various programming and scripting languages including Java, JavaScript, Perl, Bash, Csh, and Python.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
• Will to quickly learn Confluence and similar collaboration tools quickly in order to become and effective support engineer.
• Define, document and implement collaboration solutions on Confluence.
• Assist in the maintenance of Confluence including installation, upgrade, testing, debugging, and support.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to drive the adoption of standard collaboration platforms.
• Participate in a cohesive, diversely skilled and effective team with the ability to work well under pressure and the ability to work effectively across all levels throughout the enterprise.
• Maintain an on-going understanding of the different collaboration tools with emphasis on Confluence and how it is used within the engineering community.
• Maintain excellent customer support metrics by addressing Remedy issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Willing to spend time talking with engineers to fully understand their collaboration use cases and problems they need to solve.
• As a member of the team supporting a mission critical application, be available to respond to severity 1 system issues on a 24-hours per day, 7-day per week basis
Required Skills & Experience
• Must have programming language skills: PERL, Shell Scripting, C development, JavaScript, PHP, CGI and Java
• Nice to have programming language skills: C++, C#
• Experience with MySQL, Apache and LAMPP.
• Experience compiling, modifying and installing open source tools required
• Comfort with MS Windows operating system required
• Comfort with Linux operating system and tools required
• Experience with Make and other build management tools required
• Experience with ‘grid based’ application build processing a plus
• Experience with license management software such as Flexlm a plus
• B.S. Compute Science or other technical degree with demonstrable programming skills
